WHAT’S WILD RICE?

It’s not a rice at all but a semi-aquatic grass that grows in abundance in the North America’s Great Lakes region. However, it cooks just the same as its brown and white counterparts, which is why it’s easier to call it a rice. This long grain is also nutritious and may potentially prevent agains type-2 Diabetes and colorectal cancer.

One cooked serving size, approximately 3.5 oz or 100g, is 101 calories, 0.3 g of fat, 21.3g of carbohydrates, 4g of protein, and 1.8g of fiber. One serving also contains 82 mg of phosphorus, 32 mg of magnesium, and 1.34 mg of zinc. All this means is that wild rice is nutritious!!!!

It’s 1.8 g of fiber has been associated with reducing the risk of heart disease and colorectal cancer. It has a low glycemic index of 53, is low-fat, naturally cholesterol-free, and a good source of Alpha Lipoic Acid which evidence suggests may benefit type-2 diabetics.
